Massage: What a treat?
After a number of days working hard, and losing sleep from being anxious with this new work, I’m finally off for a few days. I decided to treat myself to an hour of relaxation massage. It was AMAZING and definitely RELAXING!!! It was so relaxing that I almost fell asleep. Well, it doesn’t help that I just got off a night shift!! Maybe I was falling asleep because of that.
Massage is so great for stress relief and if I could, I would get a massage every week. My back hasn’t been the greatest since I’ve hurt it twice already so the massage and chiropractic adjustments have been helpful. I’m sure most of you guys have had a massage before but if you haven’t, go try it out cause it’s definitely worth it.

Medical Innovation: Type 1 Diabetes
I’ve heard a very interesting news about Diabetes research a few days ago. According to the news, researchers at the University of Calgary may have found a way to grow insulin-producing cells in the lab. These lab-grown cells would then be hopefully transplanted to individuals with Type 1 Diabetes thereby freeing them from self-administering insulin injections. How amazing is that??? However, there are still many steps before they get to this stage of the research.

Numerous researchers from the University of Calgary are working on different projects that will hopefully treat Type 1 Diabetes, these projects include the one I’ve mentioned above and the following:
- transplanting islet cells from organ donors
- transplanting islet cells from newborn sterile pigs
- developing stem cells from pancreas to become islet cells

Sorry folks! I’m not going to be talking about the funky and popular band from Vancouver Island in this post. Maybe another time! (Check out their new song "Middle of Nowhere" via the link!!)
Some of you may have read my previous post, and you’d remember that I mentioned being new to working out. The one thing I love about working out is that afterwards I can go into the sauna or steam room. I remember how frequent sessions in the sauna has made my sister’s skin feel so soft and smooth….just like a baby’s skin. So, I thought why not give it a go?! However, I found that saunas made me claustrophobic cause I felt short of breath and felt like no air was circulating. So then, I tried the steam room and that was a bit better cause I could feel a little cool cause of the moist air provided by the steam.
So I figured out that I prefer the steam room. However, I wasn’t sure whether this would still give me the same soft and smooth skin my sister got from using the sauna. I then searched online for information about which one is better. I found a website that explained to me how sauna and steam room worked differently and how they benefit us. I’ve provided the link below, however, keep in mind when reading this article that it is provided by a company that sells saunas and steam rooms. I can’t vouch for its scientific merit if that is what you guys are looking for. Hopefully, this will help you learn more about sauna and steam room, that is if you don’t already know about it. As for me, I’m just going to keep using both and see how it goes.

Working out is hard to do…
I’m a newcomer to the working out circuit. I’ve always thought that the people who have always worked out has a lot of motivation because it certainly takes a lot of effort to make it worthwhile. I’ve never worried before about the fact that I didn’t work out, and ate whatever I wanted and drank as much Coke as I can push into my stomach. However, now that the wedding is looming really closely, I’ve had to take a closer look at myself….PHYSICALLY! I’m sure just like any other future brides, I’ve realized that in order to look good in my wedding photos I’ve got to do something. That’s how I got started working out.
However that’s not the only push factor for me. The other being the fact that my future mother-in-law who has a full-time work, is taking courses to finish her Bachelor’s degree and is curling 2-3 times a week has found time to work out. I, on the other hand, have 5 days off from my full-time job and yet I just sit in front of my tv for those 5 days off. It doesn’t look good, doesn’t it???
Well, now that I’ve realized how beneficial working out is for me, I’m going to keep doing it. I just hope that I don’t get tired of it after the wedding.

I’d rather be that than this…..
Everyone is unique, if that weren’t so then there would be no reason to call us individuals. Each person has a certain characteristic, personality, demeanour and possesses their own set of values and beliefs. How each person is shaped helps that person to get through their life and work. How do you know ahead of time that the job/work you want to be in is exactly the one that fits your personality or demeanour? They say each person changes career at least 5 times before they figure out what they really want to know. But don’t you think it’s a little tiring and stressful to be changing careers too often. I don’t mean working for Company A versus Company B while still doing the same job. Wouldn’t it be too stressful to find out that the job you are in right now may not be the right fit for your personality? Isn’t it frustrating to think that the job you’ve worked so hard on achieving while in 4 years of university may not be what you really want to do for the rest of your life?
Some people have told me that it takes a certain personality to become a nurse. I believe that cause now I’ve finally realized how much my personality does not fit this job. Why is it that some people have so much assertiveness and others have any at all? I am definitely not the most assertive person in this planet. I don’t like pushing my way in. I take my time but in this job I’m in, you gotta get in when you can. Otherwise, your patients life is at stake.
I wish I can be a little bit more assertive but it’s not that easy to change something of yourself that you’ve been for the last 26 years. Change they say is the only constant thing in this world. If only I can buy a bit of assertiveness??? I would have done that ages ago. I’ve been assertive on dire occassions at work but I wish I can be assertive all the time.
For anyone who is lucky enough to find their dream job, kudos to you!!! However, I do realize that work is work and there definitely will be days when you’d hate your work. It’s not perfect and it is up to us to make it work. So it’s up to me to figure out how I can be more assertive. Or should I just start thinking about finding another job? Sad thought isn’t it? I’m sure there is something out there for someone like me, I just have to go and find it.

Enceladus: Hello Neighbours!!!
Did you ever wonder if there has been life on other planets in our solar system? I did or I still do! I think Astronomy is such an interesting subject however there is so much to learn. There are so many things that we still don’t know and scientists around the world are hard at work everyday to gain more information. One example of their hard work is the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft. This spacecraft is an orbiter as well as a probe. In 2004, it finally reached Saturn and began probing/studying this planet and its moons like Enceladus (picture). Recently, scientists discovered from the data collected that there are geysers present on the moon Enceladus. These geysers apparently are shooting out water which maybe coming from a liquid water pool beneath the surface of the moon. So what does all this mean? Well, scientists seems to think that this water pool maybe capable of sustaining life, i.e.tiny living organisms. Not quite little green men!! or at least not yet!! Maybe someday!!

McLeod’s Daughters: What I’m into right now….
McLeod’s Daughters - it’s an Australian drama series…kinda like the many soap operas in North America. The first time I watched this show, I was so confused cause I couldn’t easily pick-up what they were saying due to their accents. But now, I can get by okay. It’s about Tess McLeod and everyone else who lives in Drover’s Run and the surrounding ranches. It is interesting and if you guys get it with your cable, check it out.

Cheers mates!
