Edward Cullen - today’s Mr. Darcy?

Could Edward Cullen be today’s generation of teens’ Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy? It’s hard to say that someone else could be likened to Mr. Darcy. They are two very different literary figures because Edward is a vampire and Mr. Darcy is human. However the frenzy following Edward Cullen has been quite interesting to follow. Females of all ages have found something admirable about Edward Cullen much in the same way that females did with Mr. Darcy. Edward Cullen is the typical romantic and gallant man that a woman wishes she has in her life. He has his own flaws like Mr. Darcy that women can’t help but fall for. I wonder what the men who read the book thought about Edward Cullen?! At first I was uncertain of what the hype was about Twilight then finally I succumbed to the hype and read the book. The novel is definitely written for the teen population but still on reading it, I couldn’t help but get hooked. Stephenie Meyer keeps you flipping the pages to find out how Bella and Edward’s story unfolds. It was a very interesting read and very easy to follow. I didn’t have to focus so much to follow the story because as you read the novel you become Bella Swan, you experience her feelings and think her thoughts especially about Edward Cullen. What woman would not find Edward attractive especially after reading Bella’s description of him? I’m sure that’s how most women felt after reading about Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice.
